Pranayama: Enhancing Your Life Force Through Breath and Awareness

15 weeks - 30 Hours/CEUs

Mondays, March 8 - June 14

11am-1pm CST

Prana is the life-force energy that flows through each of us. Pranayama, one of the 8 limbs of yoga, teaches us to extend or stretch this life force through breath, intention, and focused awareness. This course will explore the subtle, energetic teachings of yoga, along with in-depth instruction of10 pranayama techniques, plus visualizations and meditations.

Yoga Philosophy

7 weeks - 14 Hours/CEUs

Wednesdays, March 10 - April 21

11am-1pm CST

What is yoga? And what are the philosophies that form the foundation of both yoga and ayurveda? In this course, we will explore yoga in the context of the shad darshan, or six traditional schools of Indian philosophy, that are recognized and utilized in yoga & ayurvedic teachings. We will take a close look at the Yoga Sutras, and explore yogic practices as a spiritual pursuit. These philosophical teachings will not only provide the foundations of Indian philosophy, but will transform the way you see yourself and the world around you.

Ayurveda for Yoga Practitioners and Teachers

7 weeks - 14 Hours/CEUs

Wednesdays, April 28 - June 9

11am-1pm CST

Yoga and Ayurveda are considered to be “sister sciences,” two branches that stem from the ancient teachings of the Vedas. While the ultimate goal of Yoga is self-realization, Ayurveda’s primary goal is self-healing. In this class, we will explore the healing foundations of Ayurveda that are necessary for supporting and guiding our journey to liberation through yoga. This class includes essential information for yoga teachers wishing to better understand and support your students, and is equally helpful for yoga practitioners wishing to deepen their own practice and self-understanding.

Functional Anatomy

15 weeks - 30 Hours/CEUs

July 5 - October 22

Time TBA

While the anatomy and physiology of the body is complicated, learning about these structures and functions doesn’t have to be. The true purpose of yoga is to cultivate stillness in the mind. All of the yogic practices, from simple to advanced, are aimed at this single focus: the cessation of the fluctuations of the mind. In this course we will take a close look at the 12 major systems of the body, paying special attention to how these systems work together to achieve balance. We will discuss the nervous system and its relationship to the subtle energies of the body, and how we can utilize yogic practices to cultivate stillness and calm. From the dynamics of breath, to alignment of chakras and spinal column, to exploring the Psoas as ‘the muscle of the soul’, the goal of this course is for each student to walk away with a foundational understanding of the body, and how we can consciously use yogic practices to change our lives in positive ways.
